The technocratic side of populist attitudes: evidence from the Spanish case

Populism and technocracy represent a challenge to pluralist party democracies. The first promotes the rule by ‘the people’, while second demands independent experts. literature on populism as challenges democracy is burgeoning. Less known about citizens’ attitudes towards ideas that underpin both technocracy. In this article these opinions are explored in survey conducted Spain using comprehensive battery of items tapping into populism. It found populist correlate with two dimensions technocracy: anti-politics pro-expertise sentiments.
